Bottom post of the previous page:

No chance of rain in FP1. Im still in the middle of a power cut but online thanks to my phone. Should have plenty of data in the bank!

Time for all the flashing lights, support bands and music stuff to be replaced by the sight of an actual F1 car at last.

A lot of questions will be answered in the next hour and we might learn something. I reckon lots of lock ups but I imagine the first session will be all about learning the track and grip levels.

FP1 is underway now. Bottas and Stroll the first two out.

Oh and whilst cars are on track the Sphere that everyone is talking about with all its trick lighting and millions of colours, cant use Yellow or Red or blue lights at all so as not to send out conflicting lights with the usual marshalls / race control lights.

We have a yellow flag already .... one of the Ferraris has stopped on track. I think its Sainz.

Here we go. The first Red Flag now

Fastest timed lap so far is a 1:40 so a bit quicker than I expected for the first laps.

Onboard replays showed that a message saying 'Stop the Car' appeared on the dashboard of his steering wheel, Nothing about wwhat the trouble is / was.

This is all lost time as the red flag does not stop the clock counting down in practice.
Plenty of officials and course cars, road sweepers etc on track but nothing much really happening

Edit: replays now showing the car jumped up as if he ran something over.

SESSION WILL NOT BE RESUMED>. WTF We are only 10 minutes in.

What a crock of brown stuff. Odds on something must have dislodged on track. Great start to the weekend that promised to change F1 forever.
For good or bad the jury is still out.

It seems like a problem with a drain cover. Thats so passe and last decade.

So we are stopped because of a track malfunction. Great stuff Vegas.

FIA Stewards crawling all over the damaged Ferrari. It gets wheeled away under covers to the now blocked off Ferrari garage.

Carlos looks to be undamaged which is the best news.

Seems like a drain fitment came loose. The drain cover was bolted and welded to the frame fitment but the frame came loose.

The good news is 15 drivers managed to at least get one lap in.

The track has been deemed unsafe for use now so we have a lot of work to be done before P2 can even start.
It seems Ocon also had issues and needs a new chassis for his car.
So Ferrari and Alpine have a car each needing a new chassis so they wont be out in P2

Embarrassing start for the venue that was so hyped up.
Just goes to show, even in the US, a circuit needs more than wank factor to be fit for purpose.

So P1 result is Leclerc fastest followed by the Hulk and KMag

P1 Results
POS DRIVERGAP TYRE TYRES USED
1 Charles LECLERC1:40.909 1

It's a nice homage to Driven, if nothing else...
