Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris blew the lid off the belief that today’s Formula 1 drivers are nerdy gamers, revealing how they trashed hotel floors (!) and were banned from swimming pools.

Two other things Seb did whilst he was in the UK. he visited a school and talked to the children about the future and climate change, he then went to Feltham Young Offenders prisons and talked to the inmates there about an intiative set up by the government to help educate them and give them a future when they are released.

More about that, here: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/numb ... -cut-crime

Seb's κύκνειον ᾆσμα? (Swan song)
Most likely I am not going to race in Germany again.

http://www.f1reader.com/news/tag/vettel ... -gp-314968
“I don’t know if Germany will make it in time for me,” Vettel told reporters. “But obviously I had the privilege to race in Germany for many years. “I think in the end, if you look at the places we are going, Germany is not prepared to pay that sort of money to have the grand prix. Simple as that.”
Germany, Spa, Spain, ... one traditional place falling off the calendar after another? That's the future? Probably. Germany is refusing to go into debt for one racing weekend (at least not anymore), and they aren't alone.

Will we be having 15 races in Las Vegas, and 8 races in Dubai? I've heard gambling has some cash left, and oil fields pay.

Like Seb, I am in my F1 viewing autumn. I am however puzzled by places committing themselves to this racket for next many years. One wonders if theirs taxpayers actually understand how their funds are being used. Germans do, which explains why the country is not on the calendar.

What has that to do with tax payers? Race promoters are race promoters, they do business. Some businesses apply for state financing, and there are several examples where governments supply grants to businesses that benefit other businesses, mostly tourism and gastronomy, or to help regional economy in general. I don't know about other countries, but to the best of my knowledge no race promoter in Germany has ever received government grants, i.e. tax payer's money. And with the furore about the squandering of public funds to renovate and "improve" the Nürburgring a decade or so ago (for which the then Finance Minister of RLP went to gaol, no less!) I doubt this will ever change. Germany is not on the calendar because German race promoters do not think F1 is a viable business.

This is true Michael, that promoters in Germany are not receiving any government grants, and on their own they would lose money under current financial structure. That was actually my point as part of explanation why we don't have race in Germany.
I don't follow it anymore for past a few years, but for a German promoter to break even, he had to fill racing grounds with certain number of visitors. That was the only way. I don't want to quote the number because my memory might not be most accurate in recollection, but I do recall the number was beyond promoter's reach (>300,000). Setting aside some ridiculous suggestions from (non German) fans that maybe Mercedes could share promoter's cost, it is what it is.

You would be actually surprised (maybe not) how many races are in reality subsidized by governmental grants. Again, I've lost interest in following that aspect of racing, and I am not updated on the latest. My recollection is related mostly to BE era.
Back to Seb, which is why this subject came up in the first place, he knows the financial situations promoters are facing in Germany, which is why he thinks he will (probably) never race at home again.

Assuming rumor is anywhere close to the truth, I am happy to hear that VAG wants a German race (and German drivers in the team Audi), but beats me how they will do that.

Just in:
Honda will make a brief return to Formula 1 later in the season as the title sponsor of the Japanese Grand Prix.
So, they did it.

Apparently Sebastian Vettel has been mugged in Spain!! They got away with his backpack which had all his personal documents in. He didn't take it laying down though, the local police tried to persuade him not to, but using his iphone, Seb tracked down his earphones on an electric scooter! Sadly the rest of his stuff wasn't there, but he tried!

Full story: https://www.crash.net/f1/news/1003436/1 ... rs-scooter

What a horrible thing to have happen for anyone. I imagine it's going to cause him some problems when he wants to leave Spain as well.

He should be ok. Im sure within the EU you can travel without a passport in special circumstances.... simply by obtaining an ETD (Emergeency Travel Document) from the Consulate. I once got a British Emergency Passport in Melbourne in a couple of days. Im sure within the EU its easier than the strings I had to pull.

Yes. Actually, you don't need a passport within the EU to cross borders. But you require something for identification at all times.

I guess that might be easier from someone of the international status (in terms of recognition) of Seb over a mere Joe Public such as you or I.

Yes it's true that in Europe you don't need a passport, it's still not convenient to lose all of your documents like that is it? He's now got to get new ones made up and perhaps cancel others so that no one else can use them etc. As was said, Sebastian Vettel is a recognisable person to many, but not all of course.

Hehehe reminds me of a Berger / Senna story when Berger replaced Senna's passport photo with one of "Male genitalia"! I believe it was in Argentina. Senna arrived at the airport expecting his usual clear run through customs as at pretty much every other airport he got to. After all, he was Ayrton Senna. Except in Argentina this time, customs checked his passport, and promptly arrested him, resulting in a 24-hour detention for Senna. Senna in revenge on release when he met up with Gerhard again, then super-glued, screwed and generally joined all Bergers credit cards together! This story was confirmed as fact by Ron Dennis. :haha: :haha:
