Bottom post of the previous page:

GM have made a simple and brief statement suggesting disappointment over events of the last 24 hours

Interestingly their statement talks only of 2025 with no mention of any future plans. beyond that. It isit has to be said, a very brief statement. I daresay with time a more informing statement will be forthcoming. It seems clear GM have been taken quite by surprise with this being their immediate response.
“GM has had a long and highly successful partnership with Triple Eight Race Engineering,” a GM statement read.

“We share the disappointment with fans about their announcement, and the news that they will be moving to Ford in 2026."

“Eyes forward on the 2025 Supercars season – and we look forward to extending our full support to all the Chevrolet Racing Camaro teams, for another year of on track success.”

I'm not across Supercars enough to know the ins and outs of teams. But hopefully they don't pack their bags as a result of Triple 8 swapping sides.

With Yoda coming into the series, it was the one chance to help grow it back to something ... meaningful.

Supercars operate on their own Concorde type of thing,

To take part inSupercars a team must own a Teams Racing Charter (TRC) for each car entered in the Championship. . They used to have a similar set up called the REC (Race entitlement Contract. Under the REC system teams also owned a share of Supercars and team income was 'flexible'. When Supercars changed hands in recent years the TRC system was implemented. Now teams own no share of Supercars.

Under the TRC system there are 26 TRCs, 25 are issued atm. (Grid size is capped at 26) The 26th TRC is held by Supercars in case they decide to increase grid size. The teams have to buy the TRC for each car. With that TRC they can enter a car in the championship. They are compelled to enter each race. So each race gets a guaranteed 25 starters At the end of the season each TRC earns a flat $650,000 as their share of start money TV rights etc. Thats based on 12 rounds. If there are 13 or more rounds they get a pro rata increase.

If a team with a TCR was to not turn up to a round their TRC would be seized by Supercars and put back in 'the pool'. They would basically revert to being the property of SC to sell to AN Other prospective team owner. In that case they would also not receive their 650K. That basically ensures 25 cars turn up every week.

A team has the right to sell (or lease) their TRC('s) should they so wish. ie Last season Tickford went from a 4 car team (ie 4TRCs) to a two car team. They I think sold one back to SC who perhaps sold it on to another team wishing to expand from 1 to 2 cars and may have leased the other. The TRCs once owned by a team become a matter of commercial value. If no one wants one its worth sweet FA, if they are in demand its highest bidder. Generally they are not worth on the resale market what SC sold them for, but that is not hard and fast.

In the case of a team being sold (iewhen Team. Sydney sold to PremiAir the TRCs were sold with the team (They are a team asset)

A bit of a long winded answer to sort of say that a no showby a team is basically something that doesnt happen. You lose the TRC (without reward) and you lose your 650K).

I dont remember since the TRC system was implemented any no shows. Dont ask me how a wildcard entry works. I have no idea. All I know is a team can enter a wildcard (extra) entry maybe 3 times per year. AFAIK no TRC is involved just a justification to SC to grant the WC.

Thats what I believe to be the case and basically it is. (But.....) I reserve the right to have got some minor detail part of it wrong! :haha:

Ahh, I meant more in terms of GM and staying in the series if they have uncompetitive teams, haha.

]There is a caveat on T888 becoming the Ford Homologation team.... thats not up to Ford.

Triple Eight factory Ford Homologation status awaits team vote

Supercars’ rules state: “The identity of each Homologation Team is decided by simple majority of the Teams in the Championship running a particular make of Car.”

The existing Ford teams must therefore vote Triple Eight into the homologation role that has been held by Dick Johnson Racing since 2018.

Speaking at theMelbourne end of Friday's announcement, (which was timed to include Ford Performance’s global season launch in Charlotte), Triple Eight team manager Mark Dutton admitted the vote is yet to occur.

I would say thats a formality given the much criticised DJR performance in the role and the undoubted skills of T8 in that side of the business

One for @Vassago here as I know he is keen on the historic ATCC days and early SC stuff.

He will certainly know of Steve Reed and Trevor Ashby with their Lansvale Smash repairs business back in the day, the team regulars at Bathurst from 1986 -to c2000.

Image

Well, the Lanvale Smash Repairs name returns to the bonnet of a racecar some 25 year on from when they quit.
Brad Vaughan, this year continuing in Super 2, no longer with Tickford but now with Brad Jones in the #80 Holden ZB Commodore,.... sporting Lansvale Smash Repairs on the bonnet.

Some new liveries launched for this year....

Start off with DJR,still slightly less red. They are still using the famous £17 we always see on a DJR car, but Brodie K this year will be running as #38..... Why #38? Sound oddball. Not so fast.

Dick Johnson himself used #38 for his first ever race at Lakeside in Queensland in 1964 and again for his string of US NASCAR cameos in the 1990s. As an aside Kostecki ran #38 during his 2020 Super2 campaign with Eggleston Motorsport,

Oh nearly forgot, DJR has inked a brand new agreement with PPQ (Personal Plates Queenland) that will see the two Shell V-Power Mustangs sporting numbers plate decals on the front bar.

Just one of the two Tickford cars has launched their 2025 look..... Thomas Randle’s revised Castrol Mustang livery

Castrol will continue its support of the #55 Ford Mustang, marking the fourth straight season for Randle in the green, red, and white livery. Last year it also had Coca Cola logos at th rear. None this year, replaced by Tickford stickers.

We have both Erebus and Triple 8 doing their livery launches over the weekend. Sort of strange but T8 are launching their car / livery at the NZ GP this weekend at Highlands Motorsport Park but it makes sense . Broc Feeney and Will Brown are both competing in the NZ GP this weekend and lets not forget the Team's major shareholder these days is Tony Quinn who owns amongst other circuits, Highlands Park. He also keeps on of last years cars in NZ at HMP so its just a wrap job to present the livery

Re Erebus theirs is more local. I have my finger crossed it might have a bit of Chico Roll signage on it.... the one of Chico Bathurst livery Brodie K ran was just brilliant. There have been a few hints. Erebus will launch their 2025 season with an open house livery reveal at Melbourne’s Young Timer’s Garage. (a car yard specialising in exotic cars. https://ytg.co/index ) The owner of YTG aid it would benice to see a bit of CChico back, and one of the team notice / invites to the reveal showed a picture of that car.

YAY its back. Brilliant news. As I mentioned and hoped, the Chico Roll returns.
Only on the #99 Cooper Murray car though. JLB has to make do with Tyrepower.

Hopefully it (Chico) is for the whole season. I suspect it might be certain rounds only as they confirm it might be a rolling sponsorship.

Tyrepower are a lock in on the #9 JLB car for the full season..... Tyrepower split its sponsorship in 2024 across Erebus and Matt Stone Racing but has committed to just one car for 2025.

Red Bull will also be launched today. Watch this space for the final GM Red Bull livery.

Didnt have to wait too long.... NZ is two hours ahead so it wasnt going to be far away to get the launch in before the NZGP starts

Triple Eight reveals livery for final GM season

Absolute yawn boring a batshit sme old same old .... actually apparently it has a bit more white in it. Maybe it i but still to be the most boring look there is. Just so tired and old now. Still, if it still sells lots of fizzy drinks ......
Made worse by dreadful photographs with the sun reflecting off parrticularly the second image. Red Bull are usually a bit more into details but I guess that was RD' era thing and JW isnt quite so into the detail.

It doesnt get any better from any angle.

So this is going to be an interesting season for T8. A full year of GM when both parties know T8 will switch to Ford next year.
Hows that going to affect spare parts or other manufacturer's support? Will they be last in line for certain things?
I predict T8 to be less competitive than other GM entries this year.
(And again I wish we could get the full season in the US)

Its going to be an interesting season for lots of teams.....

The big issue that will be fun to watch on to, is that T8 have ongoing contracts with several of the Chev teams..... they have paid for T8 to build their cars and also a couple have data arrangements and a close connection. Almost like a Ferrari Haas situation. PremiAir, Brad Jones and Matt Stone Racing are all running Triple 8 built cars and have an ongoing technical relationship with them. In effect Triple 8 as it stands are the ones providing the customer teams with upgrades and updates. If Chev / GM drop T8 down the priority no one will get the upgrades to maintain a competitive edge..

Ironically the only other Chev team that AFAIK last year built their own chassis were Erebus. (The chassis/ central structure of both Ford and Chev SCs are identical..... at least identicalother than who welded the box of tubes t (to make up what is in the pic below. That is the same be it Ford Chev or Toyota.... In effect all that is different are the skins or panels iif you prefer, and the engines. Transaxles Clutches brakes suspension etc are all spec parts

Amusingly when Brodie Kostecki left Erebus (Chev) to joint DJR (Ford's current homologation team) Brodie suggested to DJR that they should order and use Erebus built chassis. So in effect the Ford Homologation team are this year running a chassis ordered through Erebus (Chev) Team. Of course for next year DJR lose there homologation team status as that is part of the deal for T8 to join Ford.

Actually to be truthful the Erebus chassis are built by a third party (A guy called James White in South Australia). He has built Erebus chassis for a decade , right back to the start of the last generation when they looked like Commodores! In effect White will only deal through Erebus. Who do they pick. Plus how serious are GM about continuing in Supercars. The Camaro is already out of production and never was in Aus, other than by special order and paying for an RHD conversion(I think through Walkinshaw racing road car upgrade division ,who also did the conversion) , and GM only build trucks in RHD

Lots of things to go wrong for lots of teams this year ... and the start of next year will be a whole new world.

It also leaves GM in a bit of a conundrum because GM no longer have a homologation team for next year.

Triple 8 open up on their move to Ford......

Bottom line is the move from GM to Ford is of course all about money and future growth. It seem that when the Cadillac to F1 story broke round about Bathurst time last year Tony Quinn (Major shareholder and head honcho behind the scenes and Team Principal (and lesser shareholder) Jamie Whincup asked GM at Bathurst how the Caddy to F1 project might impact their Supercars involvement given the Camaro was out of production and potential GM priority swings.

Quinn at the NZGP T8 Red Bull livery launch explained the journey and the reasons. Cant say I blame them and the move to Ford will open up enormous opportunity outide SC not to mention the alliance with Ford in SC alone will be much more lucrative than the already low key GM Supercars project.

Oh and as an aside lets not forget Ford are also officially back in F1 from next year, albeit as an engine and technology partner. Who with? Oh Red Bull.... who coincidentally happen to have a naming rights sponor deal with T8. Just saying!! :haha:

Anyway this what TQ had to ay about what happened.....GM has been represented in the Australian category since 2023 with the now globally out-of-production Chevrolet Camaro, which replaced the defunct Holden Commodore.
The Camaro program is underpinned by an Intellectual Property deal between Supercars and GM and carries a relatively small sponsorship component for Triple Eight. :wow:
Last year GM confirmed it will enter Formula 1 in 2026 with its Cadillac brand, while it is yet to lay out plans beyond the current Camaro for categories such as NASCAR and Supercars

Asked about the Ford move, Quinn said: “It started in October last year at Bathurst.

“Basically, we said to GM ‘what’s the future?’ because they had announced the Formula 1 program and we thought ‘oh, something big is coming of this’.

“And really, there wasn’t any news from it, so we sort of said, well, as a business, we’re always looking for more money. The drivers always look for more wages, so we need more money to pay them.

“To be blunt, we phoned around. Ford were very interested and so the talks began.”

Ford’s global motorsport push also includes a move into the booming F1 arena in 2026 through a powertrain supply deal with Red Bull..... a bonus but not a driving force behind the T8 Ford move.

While uncertainty over GM’s future appears a concern for Supercars, Quinn sees attention around Triple Eight’s dramatic defection as a boost.

“What we’ve ended up with, I believe, is a fantastic commercial deal for Triple Eight [and] a fantastic deal for Supercars,” he continued.

“It adds to the petrol, the fuel. Good for the media.

“We’ve been with Ford before, so it’s not new news. I think for Triple Eight, the association with Ford is going to open up so many opportunities for us as a business.

“The one thing I said to the guys when they found out was just tell me we can win with a Mustang, and they both said yes. That’s all we need to do.”

Triple Eight’s other tie-ups with Ford are expected to include involvement in GT racing, the Finke Desert Race and the Mustang Cup, should the Blue Oval bring that to Australia.

More livery reveals in no particular order (except by team)

Team 18 reveals fresh colours for 2025
Team 18 unveils Anton De Pasquale’s DeWalt Camaro and the new- (lemon squash) look Tradie Energy entry for David Reynolds.

The squad has swapped matte black for gloss yellow on the flanks of the DeWalt entry, which will again run sister brand Cub Cadet at three rounds across the season.

Walkinshaw Andretti United – Ryan Wood – Ford Mustang.... a bit more black background in both this year. They have opted to retain the black base colour for its Mostert- and Ryan Wood-driven Mustangs following a switch from white in mid-2024. Fan power it seems chose....“The fans loved the black livery on the Mobil 1 Optus Racing No. 25 last year and we just had to keep it for them again this year,”

Like Wood’s car , the Mostert machine now also features bolder use of its secondary colour.

Moving on to Brad Jones Racing,

I love the new look of the Macca Jones driven Pizza Hut entry. They seem to think its a bit special too..... Dont think I have seen Dope and frothing fans mentioned in a livery reveal before! :haha:
“Pizza Hut is all about being bold, having fun, creating some energy and this livery reflects that. The energy they bring to Supercars is refreshing and something that I love being a part of.
“We’ve had some truly dope liveries in the last two years and I can’t wait to share what 2025 will bring. Fans will froth the 96.
