Bottom post of the previous page:

So, Lando Pole, and a Team Papaya front row lockout,
Lewis out in Q1 for his final Mercedes gig,
Charles starting rear of grid,
Hulkenberg starting 4th ahead of Max
Bottas top 10 on his final qualy for Sauber

Got to say the WCC is going to Woking for the first time this Millennium. Surely they cant lose it now..... short of Oscar and Lando taking each other out at T1.

So no one has even won at Abu Dhabi not starting on the front row, bar Kimi in 2012 (for Lotus / Renault, the year he asked to be left alone as he knew what he was doing).who started 4th that year.

Looks good for one of the McLarens to win..

Hulkenberg hit with three-place grid penalty for Abu Dhabi GP
After producing his best Qualifying result of the season in Abu Dhabi, Nico Hulkenberg has been hit with a three-place grid drop for failing to follow the race director’s instructions by overtaking two cars on the pit exit road.

More farcical and nonsense stuff from Race Control..... Hulk got pinged for passing cars in the pitlane exit. The same thing Max famously did legally in Brazil maybe last year, and nothing has changed. It was an allowed procedure. Until this weekend when the rules were changed.

Did I mention that the cars Hulk passed were stopped still.... in the tunnel trying to create space for themselves and possibly to ensure others behind dont even get a chance to start their lap.

By the way the other rule recently introduced to stop these pit lane exit qualifying games is that no car is allowed to stop in the pit lane exit after the are officially out of the limiter area ie the tunnel at Abu Dhabi is an area stopping is not allowed.)

Race control seem to have overlooked the no stopping in the lane exit tunnel rule. The only reason why Hulk was forced into trying to overtake and make his way out onto the track.

In other words race-control made a new rule for this race off no overtaking, but then overlooked the other (stopping) rule that would have ensured Hulk did not even need to try and pass as was legal until Friday.

And the rule that now says no car is allowed to block another at pit exit. As Hulk tried to pass cars they were placing them selves in positions that did block others. Did anyone get pinged for that rule? Not a chance . Completely ovrlooked the rule that caused the issue

In enforcing a new one off no overtaking rule they have overlooked and chosen to overlook and not enforce two existing rules in relation to cars stopping and blocking.

Disgraceful.. Sack the Race Director. Oh wait.....

An ongoing joke. Wonder what tRC will screw up during the race in this ongoing comedy of errors.
[/rant]

And breathe.....

In their hearing, the stewards found that Hulkenberg did not dispute that he had breached race director Rui Marques' instructions, but that that he had to do so to get a lap in during Q3.

Depsite this, the stewards rejected Hulkenberg's reasoning, writing that the "position of the team garages can never be used as an excuse to breach any regulations."

As a result of the penalty, Max Verstappen moves up to P4, Pierre Gasly is P5 and George Russell is promoted to P6 with Hulkenberg now seventh alongside Fernando Alonso.

Regulatory system developed by, and maintained by FiA seems badly need of revamping. I am thinking it's over regulated. Some basic Law & Order is needed, but not more. In Nico's case regulation by a word only made not much sense, but Hulk got punished anyway because RD plays power game. There is no mechanism in place for avoiding stupidity. Interestingly RD made a rule, and he thinks it covers every conceivable situation which might arise in real conditions. That is known as playing God.

Can someone explain to me how is possible for Bottas with his C44 being ahead of Perez in his RB20? Realization what just happened in here must hurt. I don't know whom it hurt more. Sergio? Horner? Engineers? This is ridiculous, but Mattia's influence seems to be paying off, unless this is one off fluke.

The fact Bottas was just 3/100ths of a second faster than Perez, who had, due to having his previous lap deleted, to do his final run on used tyres 'might' have influenced the time. Traffic, tyre warmup so many variables to take into account. I guess also is the fact that Bottas, potentially in his last qualifying lap in F1 might have had a bit of an adrenaline rush and did something a little bit extra.

I doubt very much Mattia had any direct influence over that qualifying. Last weekend in the same car as Zhou, he couldnt get close to Guanyu. They all have days where all the stars align and others where they dont.

So, for some strange reason Lewis has been invited to join the podium getters in the end of term post race start line donuts and end of term celebrations.

Why? I could understand it if he was retiring and it was his final career race, but he is just changing teams.
“After taking the chequered flag the top three (3) drivers and driver of car 44 (if outside of top three (3)) should stay on track, drop to the back of the field and then proceed directly to the Grid where there will be the opportunity for post-championship celebrations should they wish to do so,” a note the FIA media delegate to teams outlined.

“Following these celebrations, they should proceed towards the start light gantry where they will find the 1, 2, 3 boards.”
They have in the past had extra drivers join the podium getters in the last race of the year..... Fernando did so when he left F1 in 2018 to go and do his WEC and other projects. He was not expected to return to F1 at the time so understandable that he would be invited.

Well, I thought qualifying was fantastic, and I am looking forward to a hopefully exciting race today where we see McLaren win the Constructors' for the first time since 1998 :bye:

Lewis turned up to the circuit fully in red clothes today, it sounds like he is making a statement about where his mind is right now.
