NASCAR legend Bobby Allison has died at the age of 86:Mary McGee died yesterday [November 27th]. She was one of the most respected motorcycle racers of her time, becoming the first woman to compete in motorcycle road racing and motocross events in the United States and opening the door for all who followed.
Mary started out racing sports cars in Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) competition in the 1950s, and she made headlines from coast-to-coast for regularly winning races against men, much to their chargrin.
She competed in a wide variety of cars including a Ferrari Testa Rossa, Mercedes-Benz 300SL, Lotus 18, Porsche 550 Spyder, as well as Corvettes, Jaguars, ACs, and Elvas.
Czech race-car icon Vasek Polak suggested that McGee should try motorcycle riding as it would further improve her automotive racing skills. Always looking for an edge, McGee simply said "Okay. Why not?" and got on with it.
She became the first woman to road race and hold a FIM license in the United States. At a New Years Eve party in 1963 her longtime friend, Hollywood actor, and fellow racer Steve McQueen turned to her and said "McGee, you’ve got to get off that pansy road-racing bike and come out to the desert."
She took McQueen's challenge and in the years to follow she began racing off-road and in desert endurace racing events. She rode a Husqvarna solo in the Baja 500, passing 17 two-man teams. She raced in the Baja 1000 and became the first woman to ever do so.
Her full list of achievements is extensive and earlier this year a film about her life was released called Motorcycle Mary. You can see the trailer here:

Rune has driven a lot of cars during his career as an international long-distance driver with, among others, Reine Wisell. Back then they drove the Camaro, but most of us probably remember his progress in the BMW. In 1970 came the first SM badge and in 1975 the second, Even then in a BMW but now a CSL 3.5, a car that today is with the Söderström family in Malmö and in the museum owned by the BMW importer Söderström. We have also seen Rune drive Ian Nilsson's fine Bizzarina 5300 GT Strada on the Falkenbergsbanan when a historic competition was arranged with many foreign participants. Behind that investment lay, among others, Svenerik Eriksson and Ulf Boman. Both have unfortunately left us.
