Bottom post of the previous page:

Grid is what it is. Issue is, how to manage it to induce rotation and allow young drivers in..

Bottas was asked (again, and again, and a...) about his future in F1. He said, that he is 99% sure he will be retained where he is. And that is that. No more guessing.

Bravi has not confirmed Bottas' appointment.

Marko hints at Singapore target for second RB 2025 driver reveal

Helmut Marko says that the RB line-up will be revealed after next week's Singapore Grand Prix. Note, not at the SGP. Sometime between Singapore in Austin.

Daniel Ricciardo and Liam Lawson are believed to be the frontrunners for the drive alongside Yuki Tsunoda in Formula 1 next season.Isack Hadjar is another option, and is currently locked in an F2 title battle a.RB may see fit to promote him into a race seat.

"We have an idea, so just wait until Singapore," Marko told Viaplay. "It's still September and then we'll have a clear picture.

"It will become clear there what will happen [with RB's remaining 2025 seat]."
Marko had previously told Austrian newspaper Kleine Zeitung that Liam Lawson "will definitely be in one of our cars next year" - and hence it would be logical that the New Zealander comes in to replace Ricciardo at the team.

If it's not Lawson, I'll be disappointed. And this is coming from a Ricciardo fan (he's either not got it anymore, or not convinced the team to make the car changes he needs to be succesful).
Lawson deserves the seat more than the untested rookie. Put the rookie on sim duty until next year (when Lawson moves up to the full RedBull ride).

Rumours are swirling this week that Red Bull is finally ready to reveal its plans for its second F1 team RB - and those plans may begin in Singapore with Liam Lawson immediately taking over from 35-year-old Ricciardo.

After Baku, Dutch journalist Rick Winkelman claimed that, according to his sources, the story is true.

I have understood from several people that Liam Lawson will definitely drive in Singapore, he told Ziggo Sport.
Well, we will obtain confirmaton soon how accurate is that rumor.

This switching of drivers in mid season seems to be very fashionable this year. I would not be surprised to learn that it happened in the past in history of this sport, but I just don't recall anything of this kind, lets say past 40 years. Sure, drivers got hurt, and had to step down for a while, but dismissal on grounds of incompetence, is something else. To be honest, I am not totally on board with notion that DR will be tossed aside, if that's what's in the pipes for him. If this is an end of his career, some decency will be appropriate to let him finish the season, and then say good bye holding his head high. He alone has to also know himself, and why he did not let it go earlier. As Dirty Harry said, a Man has to know his limitations!

Hehehe, Williams want to get Colapinto on the grid in 2025 and it might just be at Sauber Audi.....

Williams wants Colapinto on 2025 F1 grid,..... open to Sauber talks

Williams team principal James Vowles believes "you have to let good drivers race" as he weighs up working with Audi to find a permanent Formula 1 seat for Franco Colapinto.

Colapinto was right on the pace in the Italian Grand Prix and, despite a crash in Baku practice, he regrouped to outqualify Albon before picking up his maiden points by finishing eighth in the Azeri capital.

But whilst his form has been impressive, Colapinto's career with Williams is at a dead end - at least for next season - as at the end of his cameo, he will stand aside for current Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz, who was announced as Albon's 2025 team-mate at the start of the summer break.
There is a seat available at Sauber for next season, which will become Audi a year after, and in an exclusive interview with Motorsport.com, Vowles insisted he was open to talks that would allow Colapinto to take his place alongside Nico Hulkenberg with the rival outfit.

"In two races he showed the world he's deserving of a place in Formula 1," said Vowles.
"So I have always been a firm believer that you have to let good drivers race. So we'll see if we can find a way of working with Audi in that circumstance. That's what I was implying for next year.

"Let's see what it ends up being because we have our driver line-up cemented - I think it's still the right line-up for Williams as we're growing and becoming world championship material.

"But I'm incredibly proud, like a father, of what Franco's achieved, and want him to be successful, and also the right way of having him back here in Williams performing is making sure that he's building his career. Simple as that."

On whether a release would be possible whilst retaining Colapinto within the family, Vowles replied: "So, I won't go into the contractual arrangements, but he will always be within the family. And that's what you need to know, but that doesn't mean he can't race elsewhere."

I think it's obvious now that Ricciardo needs a car that suit his driving style and he struggles adapting to anything else. It's a shame but he might be better off giving Indycar or NASCAR a go. Bathurst a shot.

It's interesting how some drivers fail to adjust new technology. Seb had his problems in 2014, and now DR seems falling into the same trap. I bet he would be still fast in his old car, but current prototypes are not to his driving habits. Is Webber (still?) his manager? I have seen him in video with Piastri, but I would assume he talks to DR as well. I'm not sure how helpful are those conversations, since Danniel is not penetrating any barriers.

Crikey, another rookie that has a Sauber drive in mind.

McLaren won’t stand in Bortoleto’s way if he gets Sauber F1 chance

McLaren team principal Andrea Stella says the team won’t stand in protege Gabriel Bortoleto’s way if Sauber wants to offer him a Formula 1 race seat, but would rather sanction a loan move than let the youngster go definitively.

Bortoleto recently emerged as one of the main contenders to partner Nico Hulkenberg at the future Audi team, alongside incumbent Valtteri Bottas and reserve driver Theo Pourchaire, while Franco Colapinto also cannot be ruled out after the Argentine’s impressive outing at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix last weekend.

Bortoleto has been making a strong case for himself by winning the Formula 3 championship as a rookie last year and taking the lead of the Formula 2 standings in Baku – again as a debutant.

With Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris both enjoying long-term contracts with McLaren, there should be no vacancy at the Woking-based team until 2027 at the earliest. As a consequence, Stella is open to talks about Bortoleto’s future.

“If [Sauber chief operating officer Mattia] Binotto came to me… when you have such a talent, definitely you're not going to stop him having a chance in Formula 1,” the Italian insisted.

“At the same time, we will be definitely interested in finding a way to keep him in the McLaren family, because I think he's a talent that in the future could be important for McLaren.

“We are safe for the long term with our two drivers. We couldn't be any happier. But definitely, we would like to keep him in the McLaren family. But I'm sure we could find a solution.”

Red Bull has hinted, but not confirmed, that it has exercised its option with Liam Lawson.

As we know, an option on Lawson’s contract existed that, should Red Bull be unable to offer him a race drive for 2025 by mid-September, he was free to leave the organisation.

That deadline was passed over the course of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

While no formal announcement has been made, it’s believed the option has been exercised, and Liam Lawson has been confirmed internally for 2025 at least.. To back up these rumours and thoughts is Lawson's appearance on the Taking Bull podcast, which is produced in-house by Red Bull.

On the podcast, Lawson spoke of how he first joined the Red Bull program, how he first met Marko.... lots of things that you wouldnt be talking about on a Red Bull production had you just been released from your contract. To me its not rockt science, and has also been hinted in the press about a confirmation regarding VCARB 2025 2nd driver, (and even 2024) ,

The interview on the Red Bull podcast that makes me think its Lawson with the gig for 2025: Liam spoke of how he first joined the Red Bull program, having been inspired by the Toyota Racing Series.
“Funnily enough, I was actually racing in New Zealand when I got signed,” Lawson said.

“So we have this series – it used to be really, really popular. A lot of F1 guys have been there.

“Lando [Norris] raced in it, Lance Stroll raced in it, a couple of guys in F1 raced in it.

“It’s called the Toyota Racing Series and it used to run five weeks over January in New Zealand in summertime, whereas everywhere in Europe and the US would be a lot colder, so there’d be no racing.

“So you used to get drivers from all over different championships, really high level.

“So as a kid being into Formula 1, I would watch this series every single year, and I dreamed of driving it – to me, it was like the Formula 1 of racing at the time.

“I finally got to compete in this series after doing my first year in Europe,” he added.

“After the first weekend that, basically I had a really strong first weekend, there was a Red Bull driver racing at the time – Lucas Auer.

“He was racing, he was my team-mate, so I guess Helmut [Marko] was watching because of Lucas racing. I had a really good first weekend.

“I never thought anything like that would happen.

“Being a Red Bull Junior was something that… I remember, the year before, I raced in F4 in Europe and Jack Doohan was a Red Bull junior at the time, and we tested together somewhere; might have been Hockenheim in Germany.

“I remember seeing him walking around in his Red Bull suit and I remember thinking that was so cool and how cool it would be to be a Red Bull Junior.”

Having seemingly impressed Marko, Lawson got the call soon after.

It had a profound impact on the young Kiwi, who admits it left him unable to walk.

“I got the call up after that first weekend in New Zealand, I found out one or two days after the weekend – I was sitting in a cafe, I remember exactly where I was sitting,” he said.

“I remember I couldn’t walk! It was really strange. I got told, and I was obviously pretty emotional but I was like, ‘Dude, I gotta go for a walk’, and I couldn’t really walk properly! It was super weird.”
A lot of content that would be said by someone just promotd and not something someone released would talk about.

As we know Lawson has long been entrenched in the Red Bull program since..... he raced in Formula 3, Formula 2, and last year in Super Formula in Japan where he narrowly missed out on the title.

He dovetailed that with five grands prix as he substituted for Daniel Ricciardo at RB after the Australian broke his hand during practice for the Dutch GP.

To me the only think left is the confirmation. I think its deal done already behind the scenes. Maybe this weekend is Dan's last chance to stay in the car for the balance of the season.

To further my thoughts I just read of Danny looking forward to the next stage of his career which he talks of as inspiring the next generation of drivers

DR:
Daniel Ricciardo has not ruled out the possibility of the Singapore Grand Prix being his final race in F1 as speculation around his future grows.
https://racingnews365.com/ricciardo-add ... peculation
I am not exactly his fan, but I was hoping he would finish properly to the end of this season. After all, he was good some ten years ago, and deserve some respect. He is still young, and second phase of life is ahead of him.

Honestly I always thought they should have gone with Liam Lawson for this season. It will be interesting to see what he can do with the car if he does get into it in Austin. Good luck to him I say. Daniel Ricciardo has had more than long enough to prove his worth and he's failed to deliver, sadly for him. This is about business and he's not doing enough to justify being in the car anymore it seems. We've all seen it happen before and it will happen again no doubt.

Valtteri Bottas said something that caught my attention. Everyone knows he is (again) interested in keeping his Sauber seat for the foreseeable future. When asked about it during an interview, he said (paraphrasing), "I know more than most, but I cannot say...".

Is this coded admission that he has his name next to someone else on the top of the list of potential candidates? He has more in him than the car allows, but I gather Sauber and Audi are looking a little further than just immediate future. Several young drivers had their interest clarified, a factor Binotto was waiting for. Once paperwork gets processed, there shouldn't be any hold up to tell us who is that mysterious person in Sauber's seat.
