I thought it quite beautiful when I saw it in the flesh at Silverstone in 1979. I just loved the lowline rear wing. As @Michael Ferner said the fact we had variety, from cars like the T3/T4 312 Ferraris, The triangulated sidepods of Brabham BT46, the A2, the Tyrrell 009 etc. They all looked different and you would be able to identify them without a livery on them.
* Cough, cough* The Tyrrell 009!! I challenge you to tell that one from a Lotus 79 without a paintjob on either
As for the A2, I did not like it when it came out, with a lot of fanfares about having found the new formula for success, etc. I remember thinking, oh well if it helps Mass and Patese to get some well deserved results, then so be it, but hopefully not alll future cars will look like this. Well, it didn't take long for those fears to subside...
Generally, Arrows built cars that were very pleasing to the eye: FA1, A1, A3, A4, A5 etc. were all lookers . The A2, not so much.
Fair comment on the Tyrrell. I seem to remember it as having a much more pronounced longer nose to the 79.... when I saw your comment I immediately went to some pictures and yes retrospectively I agree, the 79 is longer in the nose than I recalled. Maybe the 79 nose got longer in 1979, did a Pinnochio!
At the end of the day it all depends on the angle of the photo, certain camera angles accentuating parts other angles hide. Thats my excuse.
Yes its vaguely similar
Maybe not as much so as the Rebaque though!

Well the Rebaque kind of had an excuse as Hector had been racing a Lotus 79 before building his own car.
Yep, thats why I put the sarcasm and laugh emoji's with my comment. The Lotus he had used was his own and IIRC Penske buiit the HR100 as a clone of that, albeit with a few updates

I don't always tag on to these things right away because I am a neurodivergent.

What is Chevron about it? Just the name?
I was trying to think of the last proper Chevron to have a roof on it.... Icouldnt get beyond the B8 and B16! (Both of which I adored)
(I think there was a Chevron labelled GT Car, the GR8 about 15 years ag but that was certainly not the proper Chevron. If it doesnt start with a B prefix it aint a proper Chevron in my book.
Edit: Jeezus just noticed the aborition that sparked this discussion, the TOCA thing, has a B prefix and its far from a Bennet inspired B..
The last proper Chevron's with a roof that I can think of..... happy to be corrected on that.
B8
B16
