Bottom post of the previous page:

Siegel was up against it given he was running a backup that was a street / road track car. Luckily for Rahal who was doinghis best to go back to back DNQ at Indy.

A bit odd that Marcus seemed to lose count of the laps and went into slowdown lap mode on the 4th lap. Bad comms or a bit of a bit of 'inner confusion after his hefty brain rattling bang during the week. :idunno:

Anyway a list of the 33 that made it. How strong do Penske look? Has someone checked their P2P software? :suspicious:

All we need is for the Chevy motors to hang together and hopefully they fix their Plenum Chamber issues that caused the dramas.

So the forecast is that lighting and downpours are forecastt, and two inches of rain are due to fall on IMS come raceday

It seems that might derail Kyle Larsons participation..... his plans are to compete in both the Indy 500 and NASCAR’s 600-mile race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The latest prediction for Sunday has a 50-percent chance of foul weather descending on IMS almost two hours before the 12:45pm ET green flag and staying into the early evening, which could push the 500 to Monday.

To prepare themselves for the possibility of losing Larson to the needs of his full-time job in NASCAR on Sunday, the Arrow McLaren team and the IndyCar Series have started discussing options to keep the No. 17 Hendrickcars.com Arrow McLaren Chevy in the field if the skies open and force Larson to leave for North Carolina.

Tony Kanaan has been the team’s backup plan in recent months but to race he will need to run a refresher later this week..

Other options are he possibility of keeping Larson in Indy at the expense of competing in the Cup race.
Rick Hendrick wrote:“We’ve talked about it many times, and we know we need to be at Charlotte for the points,” Hendrick said. “We’re just going to let it play out, and then Kyle and myself and Jeff Gordon, we’ll make that decision Sunday.

“The pressure of being in the race and starting with a great starting spot and knowing we’ve got the 600 to run, it’s going to be pressure all day. How does the race go? Is it going to rain? What time do we have to leave to get back to Charlotte? This is going to be a tremendous amount of pressure, but we signed up for it. We’re in the race. We qualified. Kyle is a heck of a talent. I just hope that the weather cooperates and we get to finish the race.”
But there is also an Option C......if Kanaan is not used as Larson’s backup ithen the bumped Dale Coyne Racing driver Nolan Siegel, who is approved to race without needing to do a special session in the car, could be drafted in to pilot the No. 17 Chevy. Siegel is no stranger to McLaren CEO Zak Brown, who co-owns the United Autosports sports car team Siegel will drive for next month in the LMP2 class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

(The precedent of using a bumped driver was seen just last year when Stefan Wilson was injured and unable to drive for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing/ Cusick Motorsports. The bumped Graham Rahal was recruited to drive Wilson’s No. 24 Chevy, which was moved from its 25th starting spot to the back of the field.

So it seems its down to Mother Nature as to which way it might go, certainly that will likely define whether Larson runs or not.

Pagenaud to make Indycar IMS return....

OK, unashamedly a bit of a clickbait headline. I abbreviated it a bit! I should have said ..."driving Gil de Ferran’s 2003 Indy winner"
Simon Pagenaud hasn’t been in a race car since the brake failure and heavy crash that ensued last year at Mid-Ohio, but he’ll make a tearful return to the cockpit on Sunday when he drives his mentor Gil de Ferran’s 2003 Indianapolis 500 winner in honour of the late Brazilian during pre-race ceremonies.

“Gil de Ferran has been my role model, not only as a racer but also as a father,” Pagenaud said. “I got to be very close to him, (his wife) Angela, (kids) Anna and Luke through the years. Through this tribute I am so happy we will get to remember Gil winning Indianapolis in this iconic Team Penske livery. The colors, the helmet, the sound, the memories, and the fact that he taught me everything about this place. I remember late nights and countless hours with my Yoda talking about all the fine details to get to victory lane at the Speedway.”
'Pags' will climb into the newly restored Team Penske GForce-Toyota and sport a new tribute helmet that celebrates his hero, who died in late December.
“When I got the call from Angela, Luke and Anna and they asked me to drive Gil’s car, I could not help the tears as I feel so thankful to have the chance to remind everyone on this amazing day of racing of the great racer, father and man he was,” he said.
I thought it a nice story amongst the shitty weather forecasts.

Its the 50th anniversary of when Johnny Rutherword won the 1975 Indy 500.... Johnny's drive for victory in that race, the first for McLaren Racing — remains one of the all-time best 50 years later.

For those who wear Rose tinted specs a short video commemorating that day.

Seven of the last 10 Indianapolis 500 winners landed in the top 10 of the speed charts on Carb Day, including six of the last eight.

Dixon tops Indy 500 Carb Day practice

Scott Dixon led the Carb Day final practice for the 108th Indianapolis 500 on Friday at IMS, as Honda-powered drivers turned the qualifying form chart upside-down with two days remaining before raceday. Helio Castroneves made it a Honda 1-2 leaving Pato O’Ward to round out the top three in the No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet. Colton Herta (No. 26 Andretti Honda) and Tom Blomqvist (No. 66 Meyer Shank Honda) rounded out the top five.

A bit late in the day but we have a new rule put in place today, to operate for the race which will weather permitting be held on Sunday.

The new rule. is to prevent dangerous defensive moves at pit entry at IMS.

Drivers have pushed their defensive tactics at the exit of the final corner to greater extremes in recent eIndy 500's by swerving close to the barrier which divides the track from the pit lane.

A good example was last year when JoNew was defending on the final lap from Ericsson to prevent Marcus passing him on the approach to the line..... JoNew pulled well into the pit lane entrance at the exit of turn four, then swerved back out again, passing close by the blunt end of the barrier at well over 350kph.

The change to the rule announced yesterday will make such moves illegal
.

If you dont remember here is that last lap or so...(It is the full highlights video but press play below and it will link direct to the final lap)

Drivers have been told they must not cross the dashed line which extends well before the pit lane entrance without coming into the pits.

Series statement:
“The dashed white line from the exit of turn four to the pit entry attenuator will be officiated for Sunday’s race, as communicated to drivers at a pre-race meeting on Friday."

“Cars that have left-side tyres past the dashed line will be penalised unless entering the pit lane, for incident avoidance or in an obvious attempt to avoid a closed pit lane and return to the racetrack.”

"Drivers who break the rule will ordinarily be given a drive-through penalty. If the penalty is issued during a Safety Car period, they will be sent to the rear of the queue. If the penalty is issued after the race, they will be given a time penalty equivalent to the time lost driving through the pits."
IndyCar also confirmed the ‘restart line’ used at the final corner will not be applied at the race. Drivers will be allowed to resume racing after a Safety Car period once the race condition becomes green again.

So Sky aren't showing it right now, and Chris Medland just said it's delayed a few hours so they can dry the track?

I'm off to my gf's so this is the end of my viewing for the day. I'll see if I can watch it tomorrow..
