Bottom post of the previous page:

Here comes Mostert and Brown, Brown right on Mostert and needs less stop time.

Brown just gets him but Feeney is still 3rd.

Mostert apparently has a less good front tyre.

Brown leads Mostert ny 1.2 with Feeney a few seconds behind in 3rd.

Certainly it is Browns to lose now. 10 to go. Everyon has now stopped.

Mostert is not giving up.... Mostert is faster on the track and gap now 0.4.

This is where the lack of straight line will bite him as it will make it difficul to use the best overtaking spot into the Chase

So if they finish as they are Brown will lead the Championship by virtue of a 1st and 2nd over 1st and 3rd for Feeney. Happy for Will. Its not I dont like Feeney but his voice irritates me. I know its silly but....

Gap from Brown to Chaz now 1.2. Perhaps Chaz and his less good front tyres are biting him. Feeney is stil nearly 3 seconds behind Chaz with 5 to go. Hope Chaz can hang on to his tyres. He wont win but 2nd would be good.

Hmmm Broc is catching Mostert, albeit gap is still 2.5. Brown leads by 2 seconds now so Chaz has lost pace in the last couple of laps.

Brown wins from Mostert Feeney with Randle 4th then Golding who had a great run. Then Reynolds Payne Le Brocq Percat and Davo

Feeney lost the race with the penalty for the Golding incident early on.

Jaxon Evans had some issue on the last lap and dropped to 21st. His last lap time was over 3 minutes.

Erebus Motorsport has confirmed that Todd Hazelwood will continue to drive for the team in place of Brodie Kostecki at this month’s Melbourne SuperSprint.
“Erebus Motorsport remains firmly committed to respecting Brodie's privacy and we are unable to provide further updates at this time,” read a post on Instagram.

“Todd Hazelwood will continue to represent the team in car 99 at the Australian Grand Prix event.
In an interview with team owner Betty Klimenko and CEO Barry Ryan they said that the reappearance of Brodie in an Erebus. driving suit is entirely up to him.

I cant see it happening now. Sad really that such a talent is on the sidelines.

Managing director has also left Erebus.

https://speedcafe.com/kiely-to-depart-e ... otorsport/

With Albert Park coming up I wonder how long will that venue stay on V8 calendar IF let's say FIA wants to promote their own series on the F1 support bill? Sandown is set to have their last event this season(?) so it's kinda sad the state of Victoria is being phased out of the Supercars. No offense but SMP is one of my least favorite tracks in Australia if not the least favorite so having an endurance event there is.. ahem... indifferent to me.

The Supercars category are, becausee of the F2 and F3 involvement, now reduced to being in marquees away from the pit lane which doesnt suit their ego. Nor does being in effect the 4th tier category on the bill after F1-2-3. In addition they are in an area not open to general admission so no fan involvement as. such. In fact its not open in any way to the public being pass holders only (Team staff and guests/sponsors)

V8SC will be in the infield between the final turns 13 and 14 complex, iironically close to where F3 was located last year.

To make it worse the transporters will remain on the other side of the track out between turns 11 and 12.

Their track time is as usual much reduced over a normal round.... here is their schedule:

On GP race day they get just over half an hour on track, for a 15 lapper early in the morning. Saturday just two 15 minute qualifying sessions first thing in the morning and a 15 lap race in the evening. Friday they get one 20 lap race in the afternoon. Thursday is their busy day with two 30 minute practices, 2 15 minue qualifying sesionss and a 20 lap race

So a total maximum of 70 racing laps over the weekend, all subject to time certain finishes for any SC interruptions. (28 minutes per race Sat & Sunday, 38 minutes Thursday and Friday. Thats a maximum total track time on Friday of 38 minutes!

I guess the good news in that from a sponsors and Supercars pov that 38 minutes Friday track visibility will be seen by more people that a normal Sunday race.

Supercars and the teams will however be undertaking a number of driver signing and other promotional stuff in areas where the public can access to make up for their fan invisibility and inaccessibility.

2024 AGP Spercars Schedule of track activity 21st - 24th March

Thursday 21 March
11:25am – 11:55am (Practice 1)
1:25pm – 1:55pm (Practice 2)
3:10pm – 3:25pm (Qualifying Race 1)
3:35pm – 3:50pm (Qualifying Race 2)
5:55pm – 6:33pm Race 1 (20 laps)

Friday 22 March
2:55pm – 3:33pm (Race 2, 20 laps)

Saturday 23 March
9:00am – 9:15am (Qualifying Race 3)
9:25am – 9:40am (Qualifying Race 4)
5:40pm – 6:08pm (Race 3, 15 laps)

Sunday 24 March
10:25am – 10:53am (Race4, 15 laps)

It will be a sad state of affairs in next year, when Sandown will be off limits this sort of limited visibility at the AGP will be the only Victorian appearance for the year in Victoria.

Disgraceful really when you consider most of the teams are Melbourne based..... Blanchard Racing Team, Penrite Grove Racing, Team 18, Tickford Racing, Walkinshaw Andretti United and Erebus. Brad Jones are right on the Victorian and NSW borders, and whose local track in Winton in Vic.

Especially when arguably the best circuit away from Mt Panorama is Phillip Island. 3 rounds in NSW which dont even have a team, and the Sprint races at Mt Panorama are just a bore. Limited spectator presence due to its location, over two hours from Sydney, and the timing the week after the far more interesting and supported 12 hour event.

And they want to go and do overses jaunts. Talk about a delusional, egotistical and out of touch board they have. :banghead:

I can only imagine that with the Rogers family (Garry and Barry) last week selling off their hefty shareholding of the Supercars ownership group (RACE) to an American outfit (with a tenuous Liberty link) that RACE/SC will no doubt be pushing to take SC back to the US

I'm not really an expert on internal business social map of Australia (though I recall most footy teams are from Victoria) but maybe because the state is presumably doing so good financially the motor racing aspect is no longer needed to provide the money flow? Replacing tracks with the vintage housing complexes (RIP Oran Park) dictates the business model and motor racing can't really compete beyond a certain level? In other words the governments don't want their money because they can find better money with other ventures? :idunno:

Sandown 500 has been moved forward one week to September 15th because of some "operational needs" from Melbourne Racing Club?

The worst side effect will be with the co drivers eligible. The meeting now has a direct clash with the Japanese Fuji 6hrs WEC round, so many sports car drivers wont be available. Grove will suffer worst of all as both their co drivers, Kevin Estre and Matt Campbell) will have to scratch from Sandown. Of course, given the fact Sandown is a lead in to Bathurst will that influence their selection for Bathurst. Maybe not given those two aare top pro'ss and not lacking in seat time and both are well known to the team. But a problem for Sandown if teams (such as Grove) had planned to run WEC tied co-drivers.

Edit: Just had a thought.... I think Tander was locked into one of the Grove seats so it might affect only one of their cars)

Im not sure of what teams are still to confirm their pairings and looking at what has been confirmed to. my knowledge maybe the WEC problem isnt quite what I originally thought.

This is a month out of date, and shows a lot of gaps and TBA's.... but was the status of who / what have been locked in then.

Yeah, but the landscape has changed over the last couple of decades. What is now known as the AFL (Aus Football League) used to be the VFL (Vic.). NSW was always a stronghold for Rugby League and that was their football code of choice, along with Queensland.

Im not a big footy fan these days (never really was beyond the need to know what was happening because, even in business it was a sort of common discussion and it was a necessary part of life. Meetings with clients would invariably involve what team do you support. (I only ever went to the football when invited to the corporate boxes! My MD back in the day was a notable St Kilda player so by default I 'supported' St Kilda)

Anyway, back in the mid 80's one of the Victorian Clubs did a big financial deal to relocate to Sydney and be renamed as the Sydney Swans. That spread to other Vic teams relocating to other State Capitals and even new interstate teams being formed so it became a National league.

Now nearly half of the 18 National AFL teams are based interstate. (The VFL still exists, albeit now as a second tier Victorian league. Think of it as a feeder series, the Super 2 / 3 or F2/F3 of Football.)

By the same token the NSW Rugby League set up has also become a National league with Clubs in other cities. What was once NSWRL is now ARL.

[/end Australian / Victorian football status / history lecture]
