Timmy Mayer's fatal crash, Longford, 1964, Tasman Series
I've never been able to find anything about Timmy Mayer's fatal accident at Longford, during qualifying for the 8th round of the 1964 Tasman Series.
I've tried to search various newspapers, but no luck so far.
Can someone help me?
The Motorsportmemorial.org page:
http://motorsportmemorial.org/focus.php?db=ct&n=163
According to it, the Italian magazines Auto Italiana and Autosprint have articles about the accident, but I highly doubt they contain any image about it.

The accident is fully detailed in the race report on this link.... it covers all the Australian Tasman races that year so Longford being the last event needs a bit od scrolling to get to. No pictures though.

Photos exist. But I don't know if they were ever published.

Sadly it happened right in front of me. Jumped the fence and took a couple of photos in black and white. Not something to fondly remember.

But... why would he say he took them?

Sharing memories, I guess. Mayer's accident was never subject of many discussions in that group while Tresise's and Davison's were.Motorsportrace wrote: ↑4 years agoWell, I highly doubt he would share them.hollie3sa wrote: ↑4 years agohttps://www.facebook.com/groups/1907609 ... SEARCH_BOX

There's only one way to find out which is to ask him if he's willing to share the photos he took. But I won't do it. I don't feel like asking someone to specifically share photos of fatalities.
Apart from that: To everyone who is interested in the history (ca. pre 1980) of Australian motor racing, the group is insanely knowledgeable. With many former racing drivers (e.g. Kevin Bartlett) actively joining discussions.

I understand your point.hollie3sa wrote: ↑4 years agoSharing memories, I guess. Mayer's accident was never subject of many discussions in that group while Tresise's and Davison's were.

I think the only way would be ask him about his experience at Longford, what races he saw, if he has photos, etc.
Then, after some time, try to veer the conversation to Tim Mayer.
I know, it's a difficult task and it requires a lot of time (and efforts), and, well, it's quite "deceitful".

Nah, don't do that. Just ask them. Be open about it. They will tell your their standpoint. And as you might expect, from my personal experience, there's only a yes or a no. Nothing really in between.Motorsportrace wrote: ↑4 years agoI understand your point.hollie3sa wrote: ↑4 years agoSharing memories, I guess. Here are two aftermath images (one from a newspaper, at the scene of the crash, and one of the car loaded onto a truck):

BTW, can you give me a newspaper source? As it shows Mayer's number I want to add to Motorsport Memorial.Motorsportrace wrote: ↑3 years ago Here are two aftermath images (one from a newspaper, at the scene of the crash, and one of the car loaded onto a truck):

Well, I don't know what newspaper that photo comes from, since I've basically took a screenshot from the McLaren documentary.Sedre wrote: ↑3 years agoBTW, can you give me a newspaper source? And... why one more "mystery being solved"? Was it some kind of an obscure crash?
EDIT: it seems it comes from the Examiner newspaper, at least according to this website:

You can see the newspaper address in the first wreck photo, and it says "21-75 Paterson ST.", which is where this building is located.

Well, I was pretty sure that photos of Mayer's crash were searched for several years.

That's true.
Well, sometimes photos are discovered in local newspapers, or in private collections.
Which is the reason why still many crashes are yet to be found.
